Until 2024, optimizing for Google's page-experience signals was the whole job. In 2026, LLM citations became a second discovery path for some sites, but the share varies by site and measurement method, so we do not present a universal percentage here. A site that ranks #1 on Google but is invisible to LLMs can miss visits from people who discover sources through AI answers. A site that's LLM-cited but slow loses the click-through.
Our view: the web is splitting into two visibility tracks — humans via performance-graded search results, and humans via AI-summarized answers. The two share some signals (extractable HTML, valid schema.org markup, credible authorship) and diverge on others. Optimizing for only one leaves half the available traffic on the table.
